In 2018, the NAR released a detailed report outlining the top reasons why homeowners complete outdoor renovations, as well as the emotional and financial impact that these remodels bring.

Within the report, agents ranked common outdoor projects in order of the likely resale value they will add to a home (from highest to lowest). As you will see in the chart to the right, the most valuable upgrades are often the most simple – lawn and tree care, basic landscaping, and the addition of patios, decks, and lighting. And larger renovations like irrigation systems, outdoor kitchens, and swimming pools generally have a lower impact on resale values.

Learn more about the report, as well as details on the average project costs and expected returns, in the NAR’s official News Report
